Kevin has an aptitude for coalescing diversity to effect positive results in complex situations.
Kevin has been coaching and mentoring for over a decade. He started coaching one on one formally in early 2016. He found Bronson & Associates, executive coaching and consulting in August 2017.
Dr. Burton is the Executive Director of Clemson University’s Center for Career and Professional Development, recognized as the best career services unit in the country by Princeton Review in 2016 and 2018. Shortly after earning his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Clemson University in 2000, Dr. Burton was afforded the rank of Lecturer in the College of Business and Behavioral Science, and he has taught everything from freshman composition to doctoral seminars at three different universities in the upstate of SC.
Under Dr. Burton’s guidance, Clemson University merged the Cooperative Education Program (Co-op) with the Michelin Career Center (MCC) in 2011, creating the Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD), the first Center at the University with reporting lines to both Academic Affairs and Student Affairs. In 2012, Dr. Burton created an award-winning on-campus internship program designated the University Professional Internship and Co-op program (UPIC) that became the third branch of the CCPD. Since Dr. Burton assumed his role as Executive Director, Co-op and the MCC have set historic highs in participation levels, and the newly instituted UPIC produces 900 assignments annually.
The CCPD has been on the leading edge of the Career Competency conversation under Dr. Burton’s leadership, hosting the first Career Competency Symposium in 2017, serving on the planning team for the second symposium in 2018, and presenting on the topic at regional and national conferences. Using Dr. Burton’s many contacts at the University, the CCPD has incorporated competency development into dozens of curricular and co-curricular activities, with more scheduled for the upcoming academic year. Dr. Burton was also instrumental in creating a program to provide tailored academic services and internships to underserved, Pell-eligible first-generation students, as well as a 4-year career development program specifically for students on the autism spectrum.
Having served as a consultant in the areas of experiential education programs, team development, organizational structure, competency development, and budgeting, Dr. Burton brings a wealth of proven practical experience in instituting and supporting pragmatic organizational change.
